Black and Indigenous birthing people are 2-3 times more likely to die in childbirth than non-BIPOC parents. Black infants are 9x more likely to be offered formula than white infants, compromising breastfeeding. Racis m at the personal and systemic levels has shaped the health outcomes of new parents and their children - as perinatal health professionals, we each ha ve a responsibility to create change for a more equitable pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and infant care experience.
Please join Nurturely for Racism in Perinatal & Pediatric Health, a six-week virtual series tackling systemic rac ism within pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and infant health care, featuring talks by nationally-recognized experts on health equity with group discussi on led by The Black Doula focused on co-creating action and accountability plans. Primary topics of focus will be 1) Anti-Racism: what it is and how i t can be achieved in a perinatal and pediatric care setting, and 2) Advocac y: how care providers can be advocates for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color patients at the personal and systemic levels.
Liv e virtual sessions start January 20th and run weekly on Wednesdays from 9-1 1 am. All sessions will be recorded for registered participants, and there will be ample opportunities for engagement and interaction outside of the s cheduled Wednesday morning sessions.
